What is a NAV and Business Central Code Review?
This is a focused technical review of your custom-developed NAV or Business Central code. The purpose is not to review the entire ERP solution, but to create a documented and prioritized overview of the code that has been developed beyond the standard solution.
For NAV customers
Get an overview of your customizations before a potential upgrade to Business Central.
For Business Central Customers
Have the quality of existing AL code and undocumented modifications assessed.
For Management
Get an independent assessment of technical risk, quality, and maintenance levels.
Typical situations where a code review adds value
This product is designed for companies that have lost track of their custom development projects, are planning an upgrade, or want an independent assessment of the code they’ve received.
NAV to Business Central
You need to upgrade from NAV, but you don't have a clear picture of what customizations exist, what they do, and which ones should be carried over.
Undocumented Business Central
You are running Business Central, but do not have comprehensive documentation for the code and customizations that have been provided.
Suspected Faulty Code
You are experiencing instability, errors, or unclear changes, and would like an independent assessment of the code quality.
Two fixed packages
Both packages are based on your codebase: NAV FOB/TXT, AL project, Git repository, or access to the development project.

Findings are divided into three categories
All identified findings are assessed and prioritized so that both technicians and management can understand the implications.
Category 1
Critical findings
Errors or patterns that may affect operations, data, accounting, integrations, upgrades, or data integrity.
Category 2
Key Findings
Factors that increase maintenance costs, create technical debt, or pose a risk of future errors.
Category 3
Recommended Improvements
Optimizations related to structure, performance, naming conventions, documentation, and overall code quality.
Here's how the analysis is conducted
The process is designed to be carried out with a high degree of automation and with a clearly defined input: your codebase.
1
You provide the code base
For NAV, this could be FOB/TXT. For Business Central, this could be an AL project, a Git repository, or access to the development project.
2
AI analyzes the codebase
The code is systematically reviewed for objects, dependencies, patterns, potential errors, technical debt, and documentation needs.
3
Findings are prioritized
The issues identified are classified into three categories and described with a specific explanation of what the problem is.
4
The report will be delivered
You will receive HTML documentation. With the Premium plan, you will also receive a management review with an overall conclusion from Zealand-Data.
What do we need?
The analysis is most accurate when based on the actual code. If the source code is not available, technical metadata can in some cases be used as a supplement.
NAV
FOB or TXT export of custom-developed objects from Navision/NAV.
Business Central
AL project, Git repository, or access to the development project where the customer's modifications are maintained.
If the code is missing
If the project is not accessible, technical metadata can, in certain cases, be extracted from the solution. In such cases, a tool such as BC2SQL can be a possible method for creating a basis for analysis.
FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
Concise answers tailored to decision-makers, IT managers, and AI search engines.
No. The product is narrowly focused on the codebase and the custom-developed functionality. It is not a comprehensive process, data, or user workshop.
Yes. That is one of the most important uses. The review provides an overview of custom code, technical debt, and risks before the company decides how to plan an upgrade to Business Central.
Yes. This is relevant if you have many modifications, are missing documentation, have switched vendors, or want an independent assessment of the quality of the code that has been delivered.
The Basic Package provides technical code analysis, documentation, and prioritized findings. The Premium Package also includes a management review with an overall conclusion and assessment from Zealand-Data.
Not necessarily. If you have access to the source code yourselves, the analysis can be carried out without the vendor’s involvement. However, if the source code is only available from the vendor, it must be obtained or replaced with an alternative basis for analysis.
